GBI probing allegations of sexual assault against McDuffie deputy

THOMSON, Ga. - McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall has asked for an outside investigation by a state law enforcement agency after one of his deputies was accused of sexual assault.

As of late Monday, no charges had been filed in connection with the case and the deputy, whose name has not been made public, had not been suspended, according to Sheriff Marshall.

Gary Nicholson, agent in-charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 7 Office in Thomson, said the alleged victim and deputy in the case were interviewed last Friday.

Agent Nicholson said the reported crime occurred at an undisclosed location in McDuffie County between 1 p.m. and 1:30 p.m. last Friday (March 6).

The sheriff said he hopes that the investigation will be concluded soon and that more of the facts can be brought to light.

"I want to find out the truth," Sheriff Marshall said.
