Police find gun in car of a Cross Creek student

A Cross Creek High School student was arrested this afternoon after a gun was discovered in his car.

A K-9 unit from the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office was doing a routine open air search of the school's parking lot when a dog alerted deputies to 17-year-old Allen Andrew Jones’s vehicle, according to Richmond County Board of Education spokesman Louis Svehla. Deputies found a 22 caliber handgun inside the car, Mr. Svehla said. Mr. Jones was charged with possession of a firearm on school property and criminal trespass, according to a sheriff’s jail committal. He was also charged with obstruction of a law enforcement officer after trying to flee from deputies.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity
