USC Aiken senior forward Chris Commons was named the Peach Belt Conference Player of the Year today in a vote by league coaches.
Commons is the fifth mens basketball player to earn the Player of the Year honor in back-to-back seasons, joining Augusta State's Tyrekus "A.J." Bowman, who shared the award with Commons in 2008 and won it in 2007.
This season, Commons has helped lead the Pacers to a 21-6 overall record and a national ranking all year long. He was second in the PBC in scoring with 18.7 points per game and 12th in rebounding with 6.1 per contest. He is also third in the league in blocked shots.
A senior from Toledo, Ohio, Commons became the sixth USCA player to scored 1,000 career points, accomplishing that in 48 games as a Pacer.
Commons was one of five players named to the conference's first team, along with Augusta State's Ben Madgen and Garret Siler, Armstrong Atlantic State's Dwight Tolbert and Georgia College & State's Shaun Keaton.
