GBI says investigations active in Elmore shooting, inmate death

Officials at the Georgia Bureau of Investigation say little has changed in the status of two prominent investigations involving deaths in Richmond County.

In a phone call Thursday, Special Agent Gary Nicholson said are still waiting for the return of several police video cameras that were sent to FBI officials for enhancement in connection to the fatal shooting of Justin Elmore by two Richmond County Sheriff’s Officers in December. He said they have no new information to announce at this time.

Investigators are also awaiting toxicology results of Cecil Coleman Johnston, 56, who appears to have hanged himself in his Richmond County Jail cell Sunday, Special Agent Nicholson said.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
