Amber Alert canceled after kids found safe in SC

COLUMBIA, S.C. - A South Carolina Amber Alert has been canceled after two girls believed abducted by their father after he stabbed their mother have been found safe.

Lancaster County Sheriff's Maj. David Belk said the girls were found Friday at a Lancaster apartment complex. Authorities said they believe 29-year-old Gerardo Reyes-Campos took 1-year-old Destiny and 3-year-old Melanie to the complex shortly after leaving the family's Lancaster home.

Authorities said Reyes-Campos stabbed his common-law wife, Diane Madisol Trejo, in the neck and hands during a fight around 6 p.m. Thursday

Belk said Trejo was in critical but stable condition at a Columbia hospital Friday.

Authorities originally thought Reyes-Campos headed to North Carolina but now say they think he went south toward Columbia.
