Augusta nightclub shooting being investigated

Police are investigating a double shooting that occurred early this morning at an Augusta night club that officials say has been plagued by criminal activity.

The shootings took place at Club Platinum, located at the 1500 block of North Leg Road. Richmond County sheriff's Investigator Sean Cochran said two groups of "young adults" got into a fight and were asked to leave. He said that once in the parking lot, two people were shot and were later taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital.

He said they were in stable condition. Investigator Cochran said the names of those injured are not being released, and there were no details on who might have fired the shots.

"The invesitgation is still ongoing," he said.

Club Platinum owners have previously gone before county commissioners concerning other incidents there and had offered to provide added security to avoid losing their license. In August, a shooting occurred in the club's parking lot, marking the third such incident there in two years.

And in November, police said a 19-year-old woman told them she had been held at gunpoint after attempting to leave the club.
