Ice from sprinklers hampers North Augusta morning travel

NORTH AUGUSTA -- A sprinkler system iced over a residential street this morning holding up traffic for a North Augusta subdivision.

North Augusta Department of Safety officers were dispatched to Bergen Road near Highway 25 around 7 a.m., said a dispatch supervisor. De-icing the road in front of the Wando Woodlands subdivision held up traffic for about an hour.

Temperatures dropped below freezing around 2 a.m. at Daniel Field Airport, said Dan Miller, meteorologist for the National Weather Service in West Columbia, S.C. Temperatures dropped as low as 20 degrees this morning.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
