Man, 62, dies after vehicle leaves Aiken County road, rolls over

AIKEN - Roger G. Smith, 62, was pronounced dead at the scene of an accident about 8 a.m. today in Aiken County.

According to the Aiken County Coroner's Office, Mr. Smith was the driver and only occupant of a 1999 Mazda 626 sedan traveling north near 640 New Holland Road.

The vehicle left the roadway and overturned several times, coming to rest on its roof. Although Mr. Smith was wearing a seat belt he was partially ejected. Toxicology is pending, the coroner's office said.

The crash is being investigated by the South Carolina Highway Patrol and the Aiken County Coroner's Office. This is the second fatal crash in Aiken County of 2009.
