Ice closes some Georgia schools

Icy spots on roads and bridges are causing travel problems in northeast Georgia. But meteorologists at the National Weather Service office outside Atlanta say little or no accumulation of snow is expected.

The wintry weather has prompted at least seven school systems to cancel classes Tuesday. They are: Fannin, Gilmer, Murray, Towns, Union and Whitfield county schools and Dalton Public Schools.

A wind advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. for parts of north and central Georgia.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
