Holiday brings few break-ins, Richmond school official says

Someone kicked in three doors at East Augusta Middle School over Christmas break and vandalized portable classrooms at Hains Elementary School, according to Benton Starks, the Richmond County school system’s senior director of facilities services.

Despite the two incidents and the usual reports of broken windows, this Christmas holiday was relatively quiet, Mr. Starks said.

“Maybe people are starting to see it’s their community they’re tearing up,” he said.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
