The body of a longtime member of the Augusta Municipal Golf Course was found near the 18th hole this morning by a group of golfers.
Doyle Cruce, 82, often spent his mornings picking up trash from the course, according to Richmond County Deputy Coroner Johnny McDonald. Mr. Cruce's body was found on the 18th hole behind the clubhouse about 8 a.m.
"He's been a member there for years and years," Deputy Coroner McDonald said. "They say he goes out there every day and picks up trash and golf balls. It's like exercise for him."
Mr. Cruce was given cardiopulmonary resuscitation at the scene and was taken to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital, where he was pronounced dead of natural causes, Deputy Coroner McDonald said.
"There was no indication whatsover of foul play," he said.
