City commission puts off restriction on 'saggy pants'

A proposed city restriction against saggy pants -- a fashion statement for some and symbol of youthful misbehavior for others -- was withdrawn at this afternoon's meeting of the Augusta City Commission.

Commissioner Corey Johnson, who had suggested the restrictions, said now was not a good time.

Fellow Commissioner Calvin Holland said he understood.

"One thing we cannot do -- we cannot legislate morality,” Mr. Holland said.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
