Search under way following robbery of Thomson bank

THOMSON, Ga. _ Local, state and federal authorities continue to search for a man who robbed First Bank on East Hill Street of an undisclosed amount of cash this morning.


The robber was described as a black man, last seen wearing a blue shirt, blue jeans, white tennis shoes and a black cap, possibly with the emblem of a sports team on the front, according to Gary Nicholson, special agent in-charge of the Georgia Bureau of Investigation Region 7 Office in Thomson. The suspect also was wearing a black back pack.

Thomson Police Chief John Hathaway said the man walked into the bank at 110 East Hill Street shortly before 11:30 a.m., and gave a clerk a note demanding money.

Chief Hathaway said a gun was never seen by any of the bank's employees.

Witnesses did not see if he drove away in a vehicle.

Agents with the GBI, along with Chief Hathaway, McDuffie County Sheriff Logan Marshall and officers from the Thomson Police Department, McDuffie County Sheriff's Department and Glascock County Sheriff's Department, combed the area following the holdup.
