Richmond County schools would most likely see a systemwide rezoning plan under proposals being discussed this afternoon at a school board planning retreat.
The rezonings would set up a "feeder system" in which all pupils from individual elementary schools would go into the same middle schools, and the same middle schools would then feed into the same high school, officials said.
Such a plan would hope to keep pupils together as they advance through the school system.
"It's going to be hell," said longtime school board member Marion Barnes of any large scale rezoning.
If the proposal is eventually accepted, rezonings would probably occur in phases, board members said.
School officials meeting this afternoon also were discussing expansion of enhanced programs that focus on various vocations and the arts.
Such programs might be considered for the new Pine Hills Middle School, expected to open next fall on Brown Road.
