Woman dead, man arrested, 2 others sought in Burke slaying

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was called in today to help investigate the death of a woman in Burke County and the arrest of a suspect.

According to a statement released by the GBI regional office, the agency is helping in the death investigation of Alajandra Reina Canche, 32, of 800 Quaker Road, Savannah, Ga.

Her body was discovered Sunday night in her vehicle on Chappell Road just east of Georgia Highway 56 south of Waynesboro. According to relatives Ms. Canche was four months pregnant.

A suspect, identified as Heriberto Juarez, 22, of the 2100 block of Herndon Road, Waynesboro, has been arrested and charged with murder, the GBI said.

In addition, murder warrants have been taken for two other men, and law enforcement officials are searching for them. The motive for this crime is still under investigation, the GBI statement said.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
