A Columbia County sheriff's investigator was arrested this afternoon on nine counts of forgery in the first degree.
Brooke Kelly has also been charged with violation of oath by a public officer and released on $28,000 bond, according to a news release from Columbia County sheriff's Capt. Steve Morris.
The violations were brought to the attention of authorities after police say a crime victim claimed her case had been closed incorrectly and that someone had forged her name on an official document. A sheriff's office investigation determined that the document in question, a waiver of prosecution, had been forged by Ms. Kelly, the release states. The investigation also determined that Ms. Kelly had forged the names of eight other complaintants or victims on nine seperate forms, Capt. Morris stated.
Ms. Kelly was hired by the Columbia County Sheriff's Office on July, 9 2005 and was transferred to the Criminal Investigations Division on January, 8 2007. She was previously employed by the Richmond County Sheriff's Department, according to the release.
