Albertus Maximus continues parade of upset winners

ARCADIA, Calif. -- Albertus Maximus rallied from mid-pack, found running room on the outside and won the $1 million Breeders' Cup Dirt Mile by a 1¼ lengths at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Garrett Gomez, 6-1 shot Albertus Maximus covered the distance on the new synthetic surface in 1:33.41 and paid $14.60, $7.40 and $5.40, continuing the parade of long shots in Saturday's first three races at the season-ending championships.

Britain-bred Rebellion returned $16 and $11.20, while Two Step Salsa was another half-length back in third and paid $12.80 to show.

Trainer Vladimir Cerin earned his first Breeders' Cup victory, while Gomez rode his second winner of the two-day event.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
