Teen sought in shooting surrenders

A 16-year-old sought by police in connection with a recent fatal shooting turned himself in today.


Cornelius Moore of the 1800 block of Fayetteville Drive was one of several people accused of breaking into 23-year-old Jezreel Hammond's Royal Street home on Oct. 2 and shooting him several times, according to police.

Police locked down two Augusta schools last week as a security measure while they searched for Mr. Moore.

When deputies arrived at his apartment Tuesday to arrest Mr. Moore, he fled wearing only his boxer shorts, according to sheriff's Investigator James Kelly.

Ian Gemell Bonner, of the 1500 block of McCauley Street, is charged with armed robbery and murder in connection with the incident.

On Oct. 4 Kenneth Rodriguez Gaines, 26, was arrested at the America's Best Inn on Washington Road. He faces armed robbery, firearm and drug charges, Investigator Kelly said.
