Sale of Augusta's Monsanto plant now complete

Elanco, a division of Eli Lilly and Co., announced this afternoon that it has completed its purchase of a dairy supplement from Monsanto and the Augusta plant that makes it.

Elanco already made a generic version of Posilac for distribution outside of North America. Posilac is a man-made copy of a natural protein produced in all cattle that helps cows produce milk. Dairy farmers use the product to increase milk production in their herd.

In late August, Elanco made a bid of at least $300 million to purchase the rights to Posilac and acquire Augusta’s Monsanto facility on Lovers Lane.

Elanco spokeswoman Joan Todd said the plant will continue to operate as normal and at the same employment level.
