White Sox win AL Central

CHICAGO – Thanks to Jim Thome's bat and Ken Griffey Jr.'s arm, there's finally a winner in the AL Central: The Chicago White Sox are headed to the playoffs.

John Danks pitched eight innings of two-hit ball, Thome homered to center and Griffey threw out a runner at the plate with a tough tag by A.J. Pierzynski, helping Chicago beat the Minnesota Twins 1-0 in a 163rd-game tiebreaker to win the division Tuesday night.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
