North Augusta man arrested after brother found dead

A North Augusta man was charged this morning in the death of his younger brother.


According to a news release from the North Augusta Department of Public Safety, Paul Richard Hett, 54, 100 block of Argyle Street, North Augusta, has been charged with murder in the death of his brother, David P. Hett, 200 block of Buena Vista Avenue.

Police said the older Mr. Hett confessed to killing his brother on Friday after an argument.

The body of David Hett was found by a friend about 7:20 p.m. Monday, according to a statement released by the Aiken County coroner.

Mr. Hett's autopsy results this morning revealed he died from a cerebral contusion, caused by a depressed skull fracture that was caused by blunt force trauma incurred during a beating.

The victim also had several defensive wounds.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
