Fatal crash follows police chase

A 22-year-old Aiken man died in a single-vehicle crash that occurred this morning as he was reportedly being chased by the Aiken Department of Public Safety.

Brendan Ryan Wilson, of the 1200 block of Gray Mare Hollow Road, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to a news release from Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton. The crash occurred at 3:35 a.m. as the 1995 Jeep Cherokee driven by Mr. Wilson collided with a tree on Silver Bluff Road near Jenifer Drive, Mr. Carlton stated.

Mr. Carlton stated that the chase began on Whiskey Road after Mr. Wilson reportedly failed to stop for a patrol car’s blue lights. Speed was considered a factor in the crash, and toxicology test results are pending.
