Uga VII chosen, will make debut at first Georgia game

ATHENS, Ga. -- Savannah's Seiler family has picked Uga VII, but don't plan to unveil him before the weekend of Aug. 30, when the University of Georgia will play its first football game of the year.

The new Uga is likely to look a lot like his predecessor, however, according to Swann Seiler, whose family has since 1956 owned the line of English bulldogs that are both University of Georgia mascots and family pets.

Her parents, Sonny and Cecelia Seiler, look for a muscular, all-white bulldog that resembles previous Ugas when they choose the mascots, she said.

The Bulldog Nation will get its first look at Uga VII in two weeks, she said, when the Dogs kick off the season at 12:30 p.m. Sanford Stadium against Georgia Southern.

UGA Athletic Department officials plan to distribute the first official photo of Uga VII Aug. 29, she said.

Uga VI died in June of a heart attack.
