350,000 Georgians without power

Power crews look at downed pole in suburban Atlanta



ATLANTA — Georgia utility companies report that about 350,000 customers in the state were without power before dawn today.


Georgia Power reports that about 220,000 of its customers were without power early Thursday.


Also, the state’s electric membership cooperatives, or EMCs, say that about 129,000 of their customers were without power as of 4:30 a.m.


The numbers have been fluctuating as crews restored power and new outages were reported.



Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
