The national weather service in Columbia has issued a fire weather watch for strong, gusty winds and critical relative humidity levels Saturday afternoon.
The gusts are expected to get up to 35 mph, with winds from the west to northwest at 20-25 mph from noon to 6 p.m. The relative humidity will be as low as 20 to 24 percent. This weather will provide ideal conditions for fires to easily ignite and quickly spread, according to an email from Pam Tucker, director of Columbia County Emergency and Operations Division.
The temperatures are forcasted to be in the lower to mid 50’s.
