Haley sought delay in SC audit of family business

COLUMBIA— Former commissioners for the state's employment agency say South Carolina Republican gubernatorial nominee Nikki Haley asked for and received a delay in an audit of her family's business.

Former Employment Security Commissioners Becky Richardson and McKinley Washington confirmed tosday they granted a delay at Haley's request while she was a member of the South Carolina House.

Haley said Tuesday she asked for a delay to get paperwork ready for the audit and that many small businesses do the same thing. She said she didn't remember how long the delay was, but said the audit was conducted and found no deficiencies.

The agency which administers South Carolina's unemployment trust fund randomly audits companies to make sure they are paying the right amount of taxes used to pay benefits to laid-off workers.
