Burke state champs sign with Troy, West Georgia

WAYNESBORO, Ga. — Up until a few weeks ago, Montres Kitchens couldn’t have expected this.

Backed by his team’s and his own good play during the Georgia High School Association Class AAA state championship run, the Burke County football player got to sign with Troy. The Trojans compete in the Sun Belt Conference in the Football Bowl Subdivision.

“Since I was a little boy, I always wanted to play college ball,” Kitchens said.

Malcolm Aldridge and Orlando Howard joined Kitchens at the signing table. Both head to West Georgia.

Bears coach Eric Parker said up to three more players could sign in the coming weeks, with his team’s championship run providing his players a chance to get more attention from colleges.

“No doubt the playoff run made it kind of wild,” Parker said.
