In an effort to add more offense, Augusta RiverHawks coach/director of hockey operations Rob Miller traded left winger Branden Kosolofsky on Wednesday to the Mississippi Surge for right winger Shawn Skelly.
Kosolofsky, a member of the inaugural RiverHawks squad in 2010, played in 110 games with Augusta. In 2010, he scored 52 points before adding 35 points last season. In five games this season, Kosolofsky recorded one assist and no goals.
“He’s one of my best friends, but hockey is a business,” captain Matt Auffrey said. “He was valuable all around for us, but sometimes a change has to be made.”
Augusta, which plays host to Pensacola at 7:35 Thursday and Friday at James Brown Arena, is off to an 0-4-1 start. The RiverHawks have been outscored 18-9, and no Augusta player has scored more than one goal.
Skelly scored 45 points (20 goals) in 52 games last season with Mississippi. This year, he led the Surge with four goals in five games.
“Right now, we need some goal scoring,” Miller said. “We needed to shake something up. It’s unfortunate because Kos is a fan favorite. But we’re going to try to get some goals and win some games.”
