2 more candidates enter District 6 Augusta Commission race

Two more candidates have jumped in the race to represent Augusta Commission District 6 in south Augusta.

Angela Harden, the pastor of New Destiny Worship Center, and former county public works employee and small business owner Roger Garvin are joining Fort Gordon specialist Bob Finnegan and journalist Ben Hasan in pursuit of the commission seat held now by Joe Jackson, who is term-limited.

Garvin, 37, called himself a “visionary” with “a lot to offer” who has worked for public works in both Richmond and Columbia counties and owned several small businesses.

Harden, 52, has been active in efforts to end violence at the downtown River Glen apartment complex. She has “been called” to run for commission with the charge of “moving Augusta forward,” she said.

Qualifying for five commission and school board posts and mayor, as well as numerous other state and federal party primaries begins Monday. The election is May 20.
