Prostitution suspects, charges released

No children arrested in Augusta area

FBI officials said Tuesday that no children were found in the prostitution probe that led to the arrest of 11 people in the Augusta area, part of a nationwide crackdown.

Jim Harrison, the supervisor senior resident agent for the FBI, said the arrests were made in connection with Operation Cross Country VII, a statewide effort that resulted in the rescue of 105 children being victimized through prostitution.

The FBI said in a news release Tuesday that arresting adult prostitutes and pimps can lead investigators to children being victimized.

“Initial arrests are often violations of local and state laws relating to prostitution or solicitation,” the release said. “Information gleaned from those arrested frequently uncovers organized efforts to prostitute women and children across many states.”

Harrison said the FBI’s Augusta Child Exploitation Task Force found no child prostitutes during its two-day operation this month.

The nationwide crackdown led to 19 arrests in Georgia on child exploitation and prostitution charges, including the 11 here.

The Richmond County Sheriff’s Office made public their names and the charges on Tuesday.

Arrested locally were:

David Leon Morris, 21; Taylor Street, Augusta; possession of marijuana and felony probation

Natasha Nicole Bush, 19, 700 block of East Cedar Street, Augusta; possession of marijuana and disorderly conduct (prostitution/pimp)

Kristopher Bufkin, 19, Taylor Street, Augusta; interfering with a deputy

Ashley Reshena Washington, 21, 100 block of Northview, Keysville, Ga.; disorderly conduct (prostitution)

Betty L. Key, 28, 1800 block of Fenwick Street; disorderly conduct (prostitution)

Harrison said the locations of the Augusta arrests are being withheld, but at least four arrests were made in the 3000 block of Washington Road at Stevens Creek, jail records show.
