WALHALLA, S.C. — Investigators say a 70-year-old man likely shot and killed his wife in their Walhalla home, then turned the gun on himself, leaving his grandchildren to find their bodies.
Oconee County Coroner Karl Addis says deputies were called to the home around 7:30 p.m. Friday. The bodies of Aaron Putnam and his 62-year-old wife, Marjorie, were found on the floor of the kitchen. A gun was found next to the husband.
Authorities say the couple’s grandchildren, who lived next door, found the bodies just minutes after the shootings.
Addis says autopsies will be performed Sunday to verify how the couple died.
