Liberty nickel stolen from Augusta woman

An Augusta woman contacted police when she discovered a Liberty Head nickel was missing from her house, according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

Just before 2 p.m. Monday, Mary Theresa Toole, 61, of the 2100 block of Walton Way, told deputies someone had taken the nickel from the bottom drawer of a file cabinet in her bedroom closet. She estimated that the theft happened between Aug. 1, 2010 and Jan. 1.

The nickel is worth about a dollar, according to the report.
