Appling man said shot, kidnapped

A shooting victim called Columbia County authorities early Sunday claiming he was kidnapped near his Appling home, then assaulted in Richmond County.

The 41-year-old said he was at his home on Washington Road about 7 p.m. when a stranger asked for help with a tire. The man was getting tools out of his van when the stranger pulled out a black handgun and forced him into the car. The stranger made him drive for a while before stopping to pick up two more men.

After falling asleep, the man said he woke up about 3 a.m. to the strangers beating on him on Summer Street at Hopkins Street in Augusta, according to a Richmond County Sheriff’s Office incident report.

The man said someone hit him in the mouth with a board. Then one of the assailants pulled out a short-barrel shotgun and shot the man in the back, according to the report.

The man was transported to the Medical College of Georgia Hospital for treatment.

The only description he could provide of his assailants is they were black males.
