Locked door doesn't keep deputies from arrest of Hephzibah man wanted in armed robbery

An armed robbery suspect was arrested Tuesday after locking investigators out of his home for approximately 30 minutes.

Richmond County sheriff’s Lt. Blaise Dresser said investigators were searching for Joseph Williamson, 39, at his Hephzibah home on Carrington Drive but Williamson locked the door and refused to come out.

Williamson was sought for the May 2 armed robbery of a pizza delivery driver at a home in his neighborhood.

Williamson finally opened the door for investigators just as his wife arrived at the residence with a key.

Inside, authorities found broken sheetrock from where he had attempted to hide in the ceiling.

Williamson was booked into the Richmond County Jail on charges of armed robbery.
