Aiken shooting victim remains hospitalized

AIKEN — A 23-year-old man who was shot Monday at an Aiken apartment complex remains hospitalized.


Another man who was shot, William Holmes Jr., 24, died from his wounds.

Aiken Public Safety Cpl. Jeremy Hembree said Ollie Wineglass, of Georgetown, S.C., remains at Medical College of Georgia Hospital, being treated for a gunshot wound to the neck.

Officers responded to Churchill Commons Apartments, off South Centennial Avenue, at 2:12 a.m. where they found Wineglass injured and Holmes dead.

Hembree said officers found Holmes lying in the doorway of an apartment and Wineglass on the sidewalk in front of Building 26. Authorities have not disclosed whether either of the victims lived at the complex.

Aiken County Coroner Tim Carlton said Holmes had a Beaufort, S.C., address but worked at Red Lobster in Aiken.

Authorities are asking for assistance in their search for the gunmen. Police were searching for three black men dressed in black. Anyone with information is asked to contact Crime­stoppers at (888) 274-6372.
