Martinez sex assault suspect arrested

James Bradley Hurley II, 36, of Smyrna, Ga., was arrested Friday, March 23, 2012, in the assault of a woman outside of a grocery store in December.

Columbia County authorities arrested a Smyrna, Ga., man Friday accused of sexually assaulting a woman outside a Martinez grocery in December.

James Bradley Hurley II, 36, was charged with misdemeanor sexual battery.

A 24-year-old Waynesboro, Ga., woman called deputies on Dec. 23 and told them Hurley assaulted her as they left Kroger in Martinez.

She said that at about 10:45 p.m. she was following Hurley out of the store on Columbia Road when he stopped suddenly, according to a Columbia County Sheriff’s office incident report. The woman said the man apologized and allowed her to walk in front of him.

As she passed him, she said Hurley touched her inappropriately.

The woman said she stopped and turned around, so the man walked quickly to his vehicle. He left in a black Nissan Armada.

Hurley was being held Friday in the Columbia County Detention Center on an $1,100 bond, according to jail records.
