Took tobacco products after Murphy USA break-in

NORTH AUGUSTA -- Public Safety officers are searching for a man who broke into Murphy USA Tuesday morning and left with tobacco products.


According to an incident report, an employee first noticed the burglary after arriving for work around 4 a.m. A small front window was broken but the cash drawer appeared untouched with the money still inside.

Video revealed that a man in a heavy black coat, skull cap and gloved broke the window out with a wooden club earlier and had attempted to unlock the dead bolt but was unsuccessful.

The subject left and later returned with a what appeared to be a tree branch, which he used to successfully gain access.

Police said the man looked around the store, took several packs of cigarettes and then left. He later returned, took several can of chewing tobacco, poured a drink on a computer and left again.




Savannah River Site resumes normal activity

A suspicious item was discovered Wednesday afternoon at the Savannah River National Laboratory which prompted emergency responseactivities.
