Augusta man robbed at gunpoint in his home

A man was forced to lie facedown with his head in the closet while three men robbed him at gunpoint in his home early Sunday, police said.

Deputies were called to the 3600 block of Deans Bridge Road, where the homeowner told them he had picked up a woman in Grovetown and brought her back to his house around 4:45 a.m., according to a Richmond County sheriff’s report.

When they went into his bedroom to watch TV, he heard someone trying to get through his front door. He went to the door and saw a man trying to get in, so he ran to his back door to escape. There was another man waiting for him at the back door who pushed him back into the house. At the same time that happened, the man at the front door broke in by breaking the door handle latch and entered followed by a third man, the report said.

All three men forced the homeowner into his bedroom and made him lie down on the floor with his head partly in the closet. One of the men struck him in the face with his silver pistol.

The robbers took his 42-inch Panasonic TV, $80 in cash, his wallet and cellphone and fled in a dark four-door Buick. The homeowner did not know whether the female was involved, but she also left after the incident. He was taken to Medical College of Georgia Hospital, the report said.
