Dollar General robber caught



A 22-year-old Hephzibah man has been charged with an armed robbery and shooting at Dollar General, 3134 Wrightsboro Road, Monday evening.

Authorities were called to the store around 9:30 p.m. after the manager heard gunshots and glass breaking from her location in the office at the rear of the store.

Through surveillance video, she was able to see the gunman enter the store through the shattered door, according to an incident report. The manager and an employee fled to the back parking lot and hid until authorities arrived.

Authorities said the suspect, later identified as John Cornelius Boyd, did not take any money from the store.

Deputies discovered Boyd fleeing the area in a car previously seen parked in a wooded area nearby. Clothing and the gun used in the robbery were also discovered in the woods.

Boyd has been charged with burglary, criminal attempt armed robbery and possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime.
