North Augusta mother charged in attack on son, 15

NORTH AUGUSTA -- A North Augusta mother has been charged with attempted murder Friday after she attempted to shoot her 15-year-old son.

North Augusta and Aiken County authorities responded to the home on the 800 block of Audubon Circle around 9:30 p.m. Friday in reference to a shooting.

According to the 15-year-old, he and his mother, 44-year-old Eva Ana Stephens, had been arguing when she fired a gunshot outside his bedroom door, police said. The boy told authorities he managed to wrestle away the pistol, unload the rounds and call 911. He then gathered other weapons from the home and took them outside to wait on police.

Stephens disagreed with the boy’s story, police said, and claimed her son dragged her down the hall by her hair and then fired two rounds at her in hallway.

Evidence at the scene led officers to charge Stephens with attempted murder, according to an incident report.

Officers detected alcohol on Stephens’ breath, but she refused a breath test, according to an incident report. The 15-year-old told authorities his mother had been drinking throughout the day.
