Detainee hospitalized after beating in cell

A person in police custody was hospitalized Wednesday after he was beaten in a holding cell by a fellow detainee, according to Richmond County Sheriff Ronnie Strength.

The incident occurred about 10 a.m. Wednesday, Strength said Thursday. The victim, Earl Bolar, had been arrested on a disorderly conduct charge and was sleeping in a holding cell with five others when one of the detainees, Jeremy Taylor , began punching him in the head.

Taylor knocked Bolar to the floor and began kicking him in the head, Strength said.
