Officer says he was assaulted by suspect

A 28-year-old man has been charged with assaulting a police officer.

Forace Raheem Brown, also known as "Crunk," was first seen Monday by an investigator making a hand-to-hand transaction with another man, later identified as 29-year-old Thomas Branson, along Luckey Street, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office said.

According to a police account of the incident: When the investigator approached, the two suspects complied by handing over their identification and putting their hands onto the vehicle.

While the investigator frisked Brown, the suspect reached into his waistband and pulled out a handgun, police said. Brown waved the gun for a few seconds before tossing it at the other suspect. Brown hit the investigator in the face before running toward Cherry Tree apartments.

Brown was caught and charged with aggravated assault on a police officer, obstruction of a law enforcement officer and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.
