Man sentenced in attack on hitchhiker near Atlanta

ATLANTA — A man has been sentenced in Atlanta to life in prison for abducting a raping a hitchhiker.

A Fulton County Superior Court jury convicted 29-year-old Eddie Reid on Thursday.

Prosecutors say Reid abducted the woman south of Atlanta last May. They say he drove her to an abandoned house where he bound her hands and feet and raped her, then tossed her out a window when she tried to escape.

When he left, authorities say she went to a neighbor who called 911, but Reid came back and dragged her away by her hair.

Prosecutors say Reid took the woman to a hospital and programmed his cellphone number into her phone.

Authorities say Reid later called the woman and police were able to trace the call and arrested him.
