An Augusta man was sentenced to life in prison after being sentenced today on charges he molested two young children between August and September 2009.
Superior Court Judge Michael N. Annis handed down a sentence of life in prison plus 30-years to James Paul Collins Jr., 38, of the 2000 block of Wrightsboro Road. Collins and Allison Cansler, 31, were arrested after the children reported the abuse. A search warrant of their home revealed a sex toy and homemade pornography that the children, ages 8 and 9, described.
Collins and Cansler were supposed to baby-sitting the children while their mother worked a night shift.
Cansler received a 40-year sentence of prison and probation on Jan. 13 for her part in the incident.
Collins was to stand trial this week, but after a jury was selected Monday morning in Richmond County Superior Court, he opted to plead guilty to four counts aggravated child molestation, three counts child molestation, and a single count each of aggravated sexual battery and enticing a minor for indecent purposes.
Collins had previously been convicted of theft and interference with government property.
