Dean molestation charge arraignment next week

Former Columbia County Commissioner Scott Dean will return to court next week.

Dean is expected to enter a plea to child molestation charges at an arraignment hearing scheduled for Feb. 18, according to a court calendar released today.

A Columbia County grand jury indicted Dean on two counts of child molestation last Wednesday.

Dean is accused of having inappropriate contact with one of the five children Dean and his wife, Renee, adopted from Guatemala in 2008. They also have two biological sons.

He turned himself in to police Friday morning and was released from the Columbia County Detention Center that afternoon, after a judge granted him a $50,000 bond.

Dean resigned from his position as District Four commissioner shortly after the indictment, and a March 15 election has been set to select his replacement.
