Matt Aitken's wife left vehicle running on Hickman Friday night

A car thief took District One Augusta City Commissioner Matt Aiken’s wife’s vehicle Friday night as she was picking up the couple’s daughter from a home on Hickman Road.

Aitken’s wife, Melissa, left the 2000 Nissan Maxima running as she ran inside the home, according to Richmond County Sheriff’s Lt. Robbie Silas.

She saw a black man leave with her car and said it was possibly being followed by a red truck. Silas said deputies were able to find the vehicle about three hours later in the Cherry Tree Crossing area.
