West Lake home invasion involves golf club

A woman living in the West Lake subdivision claimed a man wearing a surgery mask broke into her home Monday morning, threatened her with a golf club and stole her vehicle.

The 79-year-old woman said she was in bed at about 6:35 a.m. and saw a man looking into her back window on the 3700 block of West Lake Drive, according to a Columbia County sheriff’s office incident report.

After hearing a loud noise at the door, she got out of bed and saw a man come inside her house.

As she ran into the family room yelling for help, the man followed her and raised a golf club as if to strike her. He then told her to “shut up” twice.

When he turned away, the woman escaped and ran next door.

The woman said a $6,000 diamond ring, $50 watch and her 2001 Toyota Avalon were taken from the residence. The car, which had the key left inside, was parked in the garage.

The man was described as white, tall and having a thick build. He was wearing a blue sweatshirt and white surgery mask.
