'Santa' robs Florida bank

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. -- A man wearing a Santa hat robbed a Southside Jacksonville bank this afternoon and fired one shot before fleeing.

No injuries were reported in the attack at the BBVACompass in the 3700 block of Beach Boulevard. A frightened pregnant woman inside the bank at the time was hospitalized as a precaution, said Lt. Derrick Lewis of the Sheriff's Office robbery unit.

The gunman struck just after 1 p.m. He fired a shot into the ceiling before fleeing with an undetermined amount of cash.

Police described the robber as a black male, about 5-feet-5 and 140 to 150 pounds. He was wearing the hat, a tan jacket and a dark shirt and dark pants. He fled in a silver four-door vehicle. Police stopped a similar vehicle a short ime later at Interstate 95 and Edgewood Avenue, but it wasn't the suspect.
