ATLANTA - An Army sergeant was sentenced to 15 months in prison for stealing thousands of dollars of U.S. Army property and reselling it on the eBay Internet site.
Raymond Hairston, 46, was also sentenced to three years of supervised release today and ordered to pay $75,000 in restitution.
Prosecutors say Hairston and another sergeant also based at Fort McPherson diverted shipments that were stored in a depot and sold them online, splitting the proceeds equally. His accomplice, 27-year-old Erick Rodriguez, has also been sentenced to 15 months in custody through a military court-martial.
Many of the items were military kits, but prosecutors say the men also sold sophisticated thermal imaging equipment. Prosecutors say they nabbed the men when the thermal imaging system's manufacturer noticed the kit for sale online.
