Authorities are still searching for a suspect who escaped from their custody Wednesday, according to Lt. Calvin Chew.
Eugene Doyle, 38, was questioned around 2:30 p.m. after he held his live-in girlfriend at gunpoint and threatened to kill her inside their home on the 3000 block of Walcott Lane in Hephzibah.
Chew said Doyle’s girlfriend was able to call for help when Doyle passed out while under the influence. Authorities are not sure what Doyle was under the influence of at this time.
On the way to the station, the deputy transporting Doyle pulled over the side of the road and called for backup after Doyle began attempting to kick out the window, Chew said.
Deputies had taken Doyle from the cruiser to put leg irons on him when he escaped. Chew said Doyle was still handcuffed at the time of his escape.
He is wanted on charges of aggravated assault, false imprisonment, interference with government property, possession of a firearm during the commission of a crime, felony obstruction and escape.
He is described as a white man standing 5-foot-6 and weighing 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Anyone with information on his whereabouts is asked to call the Richmond County Sheriff’s Office at (706) 821-1080.
